IPL Winners List - From 2008 to 2020

The inaugural IPL took place in 2008 when the then underdogs- Rajasthan Royals lifted the IPL Trophy for the first time. And since then there have been 13 editions of IPL.

The Indian Premier League is one of the largest annual cricket fabulous games. The franchise-based National Cricket League attracts huge attention every year from cricket fans around the world. And the prize, the much-coveted IPL trophy, is the ultimate goal of the participating teams.


IPL 2019 Winner: Mumbai Indians


The fourth Mumbai Indians title made Mumbai the most successful team in the history of the Indian Premier League. The Mumbai Indians faced the Super Kings of Chennai for the fourth time in the IPL Finals. Of the three previous meetings, Mumbai was leading with a record of 2: 1, winning the tournament in 2013, 2015, and losing once in 2010.

The Mumbai Indians faced the Chennai Super Kings in a low score match at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad. In the first opportunity, Mumbai had to settle for a low total score, scoring 149 runs and losing 8 wickets out of 20 overs. However, they limited the Chennai Super Kings 148/7 to 20 overs, winning the tournament in just one run. Andre Russell of the Kolkata Knight Riders was honored with the Player of the Tournament Award for his contribution to 510 runs and 11 wickets in the tournament.


2018 IPL Winner: Chennai Super Kings


It was a comeback year for the Chennai Super Kings as they returned from a two-year ban following the match-fixing fiasco. It was the seventh IPL CSK final as they faced Sunrisers Hyderabad, who was only second at Wankhead Stadium in Mumbai.

In the first innings, the Sunrisers Hyderabad scored 178 runs and lost 6 wickets in 20 overs, setting a massive 179 runs target for CSK. CSK pursued a huge goal and scored 181/2 with nine spare balls and won the coveted IPL Trophy for the third time.


IPL Winner 2017: Mumbai Indians


It looks like the Mumbai Indians have gotten into the habit of raising the IPL Trophy every two odd years. The Mumbai Indians faced the Rising Pune Supergiants at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad for the 2017 IPL Final.

It was a low score match and Mumbai settled for a low total after scoring 129 runs and losing 8 wickets out of 20 overs. However, they capped the Rising Pune Supergiants to 128/6 in 20 overs, winning the tournament in just one run. It was the third title victory for the Mumbai Indians and Rohit Sharma. Ben Stokes of the Rising Pune Supergiants was named player of the tournament with 316 runs and 12 wickets.


IPL Winner 2016: Sunrisers Hyderabad


Sunrisers Hyderabad faced Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2016 IPL Finals at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. Beating first, the Sunrisers posted a total of 208 runs on 7 wickets in 20 overs. This was the third final of the IPL RCB and the first for the Sunrisers Hyderabad. RCB controlled most of the chase, but after losing to the big three: Virat Kohli, Chris Gale, and A.B. de Villiers, the other members of the squad could not reach the goal in 8 rounds. RCB finished with 200 runs of 20 overs and lost 7 wickets. David Warner and his team caused one of the biggest shocks in IPL history and lifted their first-ever IPL Trophy.

RCB captain Virat Kohli was named the best player of the tournament for his unbeaten record of 973 runs from 16 innings which also included four centuries.


IPL Winner 2015: Mumbai Indians


After a one-year hiatus, it was the turn of the Mumbai Indians to reclaim the IPL title. That Mumbai faced the Chennai Super for the third time in IPL Finals history was too good to be a coincidence. Both sides met again at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, after the 2013 IPL final. It was as if there was no separation between the two teams. This time, Mumbai completed 202 races and lost 5 wickets out of 20 overs. The Chennai Super Kings lost the match with 41 runs as they only managed 161 runs and lost 8 wickets out of 20 overs. It was CSK's second and consecutive defeat to MI in the IPL final.

When Rohit Sharma and company won the excellent IPL trophy, Andre Russell of KKR was honored with the Player of the Tournament award.


IPL Winner 2014: Kolkata Knight Riders


KKR reclaimed the IPL title after a short break of one season and lifted the IPL trophy for the second time, again under the leadership of Gautam Gambir. Kolkata Knight Riders met with Kings XI Punjab at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. In the first innings, Kings XI Punjab scored 199 runs, losing 4 wickets in 20 overs, creating a huge 200-run goal for the Knights with 115 * Vriddhiman Saha of 55 balls, who was himself a former knight. ...

Calcutta had a huge goal in the IPL final for the second time. With 94 of Manish Pandey's 50 goals, KKR scored 200/7 with three spare balls to win the coveted IPL prize for the second time. Glenn Maxwell was awarded the Best Player of the Series for his all-round performance, especially his contribution to 552 runs from 16 bats.


2013 IPL Winner: Mumbai Indians


The Mumbai Indians made it to the IPL final for the second time and faced the same rivals as the last time, the Chennai Super Kings. Both sides met in the Garden of Eden in Calcutta. With 148 runs and a loss of 9 wickets in 20 overs, MI set a low target of 149 runs for Dhoni and his men. The Chennai Super Kings, however, failed to score just 125 runs in 9 wickets in 20 overs, losing the match with 23 runs. The Mumbai Indians raised the cup under the young leadership of Rohit Sharma.

Shane Watson is the second-best player in the tournament for exceptional all-around.


2012 IPL Winner: Kolkata Knight Riders


Finally, the promising Kolkata Knight Riders claimed the IPL Trophy, winning the fifth edition of the IPL. The Chennai Super Kings made it to the IPL final for the third time in a row and faced KKR at M.A. Stadium. Chidambaram in Chennai. Back in first, CSK again set a huge 191 runs after hitting 190/3 in 20 overs, in which Suresh Raina scored 73 out of 38 goals.

Kolkata Knight Riders showed great nerve with Gautam Gambhir on target, scoring 192 runs and losing 5 wickets with two spare balls, while Manvinder Bisla scored 89 runs with 48 goals. Sunil Narine was named Player of the Tournament for scoring 24 wickets in 15 innings.


2011 IPL Winner: Chennai Super Kings


Chennai Super Kings won the IPL title in a row in 2011 and set a record that hasn't been broken yet - winning the IPL twice in a row. This time, the Chennai Super Kings faced the Royal Challengers Bangalore at M.A. Stadium. Chidambaram in Chennai. Serving first, CSK scored 205 runs, losing 5 wickets out of 20 overs, making it a huge target for the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

RCB suffered a second setback in the IPL final as they only managed 147 runs after losing 8 wickets out of 20 overs. CSK confidently won the match with 58 runs. Murali Vijay was awarded the Best Man of the Match in the final for 95 points. RCB's Chris Gale was honored with the Player of the Tournament award for 608 runs and 8 wickets in the tournament.


2010 IPL Winner: Chennai Super Kings


Reaching the playoff stages for the third year in a row and losing the 2008 IPL final to the Rajasthan Royals, the Chennai Super Kings finally lifted the IPL trophy in 2010. Led by Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the Chennai Super Kings met the Mumbai Indians at the IPL. 2010 Finals at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.

Serving first, the Chennai Super Kings scored 168 runs, losing 5 wickets on 20 overs. The Mumbai Indians failed to catch up with just 146 runs out of 20 overs, losing 9 wickets and losing the match with 22 runs. Sachin Tendulkar was awarded the player of the tournament for 618 runs.


2009 IPL Winner: Deccan Chargers


Dean Chargers, who was at the bottom of the table in 2008, won the tournament against odds in 2009 under the command of Adam Gilchrist. On the night of the final, Dean Chargers scored 143 runs, losing 6 wickets in 20 overs, setting a goal of 144 runs for the Royals Challengers Bangalore. RCB failed to catch up with 6 runs and only managed 137 runs after losing 9 wickets in 20 overs at Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg, South Africa.

Adam Gilchrist was awarded the Player of the Tournament for his contribution to 495 batting runs and 18 penalties for stumps.


IPL Winner 2008: Rajasthan Royals


IPL 2008 was the first edition of the Indian Premier League. While many big names were involved in multiple teams, the Rajasthan Royals subordinate raised the IPL prize for the first time, to everyone's surprise. The young team, made up mostly of capless Indian players, was absolutely brilliant and showed excellent discipline under the leadership of Shane Varna, who was the coach and captain of the Rajasthan Royals.

Rajasthan Royals Defeat Chennai Super Kings With Three Wickets In Pursuit Of CSK Target from 163/5 in 20 overs at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. Shane Watson of the Rajasthan Royals received the Human of the Tournament award for outstanding all-around performance.
